EMERGENCY WARNING - Charleys Forest (Queanbeyan-Palerang LGA)

A bush fire is burning to the east of Braidwood. The fire is more than 34,000 hectares in size and is being controlled.

Current Situation

Fire activity is increasing due to deteriorating conditions.
This large fire is burning from Nerriga in the north to Monga Lane in the south.
Fire has crossed Ningee Nimbell Creek to the west of Nerriga.
There is fire on both sides of Close Creek Road.
Crews are working to strengthen containment lines, extinguish hotspots and conduct property protection.
This fire has grown from the Currowan fire on the western flank.
Advice

Oallen Road, Nerriga Road and Charleys Forest Road areas

Fire activity is increasing. It is late to leave.
Seek shelter as the fire approaches. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
Tudor Valley Road and Sawyers Ridge Road area

There is active fire in the area. Monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
Activate your bush fire survival plan. Only well prepared homes, provide or offer the best protection. Leaving early is the safest option.
Nerriga

There is active fire in the area. Monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.

Burden Road area

There is active fire in the area. Monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.

Northangera, Mongarlowe, Myrtle Grove and areas east of Braidwood

Corang, Charleys Forest, Wog Wog, Budawang, Monga

There is active fire in the area. Monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
Road Closures

Nerriga Road, Charleys Forest Road and Oallen Road south from Oallen Ford are open to local traffic only.
The Kings Highway remains closed.

If you are threatened by fire

Do not be in the path of the fire.
Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.

All National Parks in the area are closed today. Before visiting national parks, check for closures at NSW Parks and Wildlife Service.
People with respiratory conditions who are affected by bush fire smoke should activate their health management plan and seek medical advice if necessary. Take precautions, such as staying indoors and closing windows.
