EMERGENCY WARNING - Currowan Fire (Shoalhaven LGA)

A fire is burning between Batemans Bay and Ulladulla and east of Braidwood. The fire is more than 131,000 hectares and is being controlled.

Current Situation

Catastrophic Fire Danger is forecast for this fireground today, Saturday 21 December 2019. Conditions will be very dangerous due to high temperatures, strong and gusty winds and low humidity. This potential fire spread prediction map shows the communities that may come under threat from embers or fire fronts. Other areas surrounding the fire may still come under threat if conditions change such as forecasts, or fires breaking containment lines. Under catastrophic fire danger, your safest option is to leave bush fire prone areas early in the day.
Fire activity is increasing on the fireground. A southerly change is due at around 2pm today.
This large fire is burning between Burrill Lake and Morton National Park in the north, the Budawang Range and Clyde Mountain in the west, and Batemans Bay in the south.
Advice

Fishermans Paradise and Cunjurong Point

Fire activity is increasing on the north east corner of the fire.
Be alert for embers and spot fires.
Braidwood

Fire activity is increasing on the south western corner of the fire.
Be alert for embers and spot fires.
Corang, Charleys Forest, Wog Wog, Northangera, Budawang, Monga

Monitor conditions, there is still active fire in the area.

Nerriga

Monitor the conditions and be alert for embers and spot fires.
Know what you will do if the fire threatens.
Dolphin Point, Burrill Lake, Bungalow Park and Kings Point

Fire activity eased overnight, but conditions may deteriorate rapidly during the morning.
Monitor the changing conditions.
Follow your bush fire survival plan.

Mongarlowe, Myrtle Grove Road and Charleys Forest

Monitor conditions, there is still active fire in the area.

Woodburn Road, Wheelbarrow Road and areas to the west

Monitor conditions, there is still active fire in the area.

Kioloa, Bawley Point, Pretty Beach, Pebbly Beach, Depot Beach and Durras North area and Termeil and Flat Rock

Primary access roads around Termeil are now open. Secondary roads may remain closed until they can be made safe.
Monitor conditions, as there may be active fire in the area.
Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.
North Batemans Bay, Long Beach, Surfside, Maloneys Beach, South Durras and Nelligen

Continue to monitor conditions.
Be ready to take action in case conditions change.

If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.
Sassafras

Monitor the conditions and be alert for embers and spot fires.
Know what you will do if the fire threatens.
If you are threatened by fire

Do not be in the path of the fire.
Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
Road Closures

Braidwood Road / Nerriga Road is closed between Nerriga and Braidwood.
Araluen Road is closed between Moruya to Braidwood.
The Princes Highway is now open with reduced speed limits. Motorists are advised to exercise caution.
The Kings Highway is closed between Braidwood and Nelligen.
The Western Distributor is closed from the Kings Highway north.

National Park Closures

All National Parks in the area are closed today.
Before visiting national parks, check for closures at NSW Parks and Wildlife Service.
Evacuation Centres

Ulladulla Civic Centre - 81 The Princes Highway, Ulladulla

People are encouraged to register online at Register Find Reunite before attending evacuation centres.

People with respiratory conditions who are affected by bush fire smoke should activate their health management plan and seek medical advice if necessary. Take precautions, such as staying indoors and closing windows.
