NT Severe Weather Warning: Heavy Rain

For people in Daly and Tiwi districts.

Weather Situation: An active trough extends over the Top End. A tropical low 1006hPa is located over land to the southwest of Darwin. The low is expected to move west southwest into the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf today and towards the Kimberley tonight.
HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is expected over the Tiwi Islands, and Daly districts.

24 hour totals 100 to 150mm are possible as the low moves west or southwest and deepens slowly.These conditions are expected to start easing tonight as the low moves further away from the Territory.

Locations which may be affected include Darwin, Wadeye, Wurrumiyanga, Nauiyu, Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Arnhem district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects and seek shelter when conditions deteriorate
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home
* stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* be prepared in case of power outages, have an emergency kit with a radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
