VIC Flood Watch: Upper Yarra, Latrobe and South Gippsland Rivers

Issued at 11:40 am EST on Friday 1 May 2020 Flood Watch Number: 4

Minor flooding may develop across catchments in the flood watch area from late Friday.

Stream showers are expected to continue during Friday.

In the 24 hours to 9am Friday, widespread rainfall totals of 5-20 mm were recorded, with isolated higher totals up to 50 mm.

Catchments are now wet following recent rain.

Rainfall totals of 20-50 mm are expected for the remainder of Friday.

River rises are occurring in some catchments in response to recent rainfall.
Minor flooding is possible from late Friday with forecast rainfall.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Latrobe River

Traralgon Creek

South Gippsland Rivers

Yarra River to Coldstream

Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Ovens and King, Kiewa, Seven and Castle Creeks, Upper Murray, Goulburn, Mitchell, Macalister, Bunyip, Dandenong, Broken.

The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings as required.

SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater, Never allow children to play in floodwater, Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain, Keep well clear of fallen power lines Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
