QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Large possibly Giant Hail, Heavy Rain, Destructive Winds

For people in parts of Peninsula, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.

Severe thunderstorms are occurring over various parts of the state.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds and large, possibly giant hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast district. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Mount Tamborine and Springbrook.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields district. Locations which may be affected include Rolleston, Mantuan Downs and Carnarvon National Park.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Peninsula, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts. Locations which may be affected include Mount Garnet.

101mm was recorded in 1 hour at Luggage Point (Brisbane Airport) to 11:18am.

A weak tornado has been observed at Brisbane Airport earlier this morning.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
